Are you looking for a resource to bring STEM into your phonics skills or word work stations? Or maybe you are just tired of using the same ‘ole word work stations year after year..?? Maybe you are wanting to give STEM a try but nervous on how to get started…?? I get it! That’s why I created Phonics STEM Sound Kits!
PHONICS STEM SOUND KITS
Phonics STEM Sound Kits are phonics task activities that incorporate STEM and provide students an opportunity to create and apply phonemic awareness skills through higher level thinking, multi-sensory, exploring and constructing. Sound Kits are great for all learners.
Sound Kits can be used for:
-Word Work Stations
-Morning Work
-Early Finishers
-Enrichment
-Intervention
-Indoor Recess
One of the things I love about Sound Kits is that they are easy to set up and require very little prep. Just print the task cards, bind them on a ring or store them in a small container and provide any materials or manipulatives for your students to create with! It’s really that easy! Students complete the task on the card by using the provided materials/manipulatives.
Sound Kits include a variety of phonics sound skill as well as phonological and phonemic awareness skills. Let’s take a look!
LETTERS [capital and lowercase]
students identify the letter by recognition or sound and build that letter
SOUND ISOLATION
students build the letter that they hear at the beginning, middle or end of the provided picture on the task card
INITIAL SOUND
students build the picture that has the same beginning sound as the provided letter on the task card
IDENTIFY RHYMING WORDS
students identify and build the picture that rhymes with the provided word
PRODUCE RHYMING WORDS
students generate and build a picture that rhymes with the provided picture
DECODING
students decode the word and build the picture that matches the word
SEGMENTING
students say the name of the picture, segment the sounds and build/spell the word

Again, Sound Kits can be incorporated into many different things in your classroom. Here’s what other teachers are saying about using Sound Kits in their classrooms.
-“ I love this and my kids do too! I use it as morning work. So far I have just used one of the CVC groups of cards. I printed one group of cards for each table of kids and each day I just rotate manipulatives. It’s so easy and I like that they are practicing reading/decoding while building!”
-“ This is such a great addition to my word work center. So many options and possibilities. Total student engagement!”
-“ This bundle is simply fantastic. I love that it can be so easily created and can be used by so many abilities.”
-“This is a wonderful STEM phonics bundle. I love how engaging the activities are. My students used this for one week so far and they are loving and asking for this all the time. I like how I can differentiate between my students without a problem without much prep work after I set up my rings.”
-“Thank you for making my classroom engaging and FUN! I know these will be a hit in my morning literacy centers and I love that I can meet all my kids needs with the different sets. Thank you for all of the time you take in creating these! I am SO excited! :)”
-“ What a great idea! I know my students are going to love these! They love building and this is a great way to reinforce literacy skills while doing something they love!”
If you’ve got some manipulatives in your classroom, put them in a word work station along with Sound Kit cards, and wha-lah, your students will be learning and reinforcing so many skills all while building!! I have no doubt that you and your students will love them!
Love these and want to share them with your friends? Pin a pic!
