TGIF! I don’t know about y’all, but this week has been super tough to get up and get going! It has been all things rainy, foggy, and cold in my part of Texas…..all those things make it super hard to get out of bed! Yucky weather also makes for a super long school day when you can’t go outside! I knew the kiddos would keep me on my toes, so lots of games, walking around, and creating were on the plans this week!! We worked a lot on long a this week! One game they couldn’t get enough of was Shout it! Show it! from my Long A pack. After I ‘shout’ed out a long or short a word, the kiddos held up a long a or short a card to ‘show’ the sound they heard. To add in some math, we kept score with how many long a/short a words we heard. Afterwards, we counted our tallies and compared data. This game also worked perfectly for my intervention time! We also did lots of long a and short a sorts this week. For one of our sorts, the kiddos had to read the snowball words below, mark out the short a words, and keep the long a words. After they identified all the long a words, they had to create a winter scene with their snowball words. I love how these turned out! I love the Santa beard! And of course…Olaf and Elsa from Frozen. Love how they put Elsa on her ice castle! You can download the snowball words {here}. We also worked on numbers 50 – 80 this week. The kiddos are masters at number making! When I read Amy Lemons’ post {here}, I knew this would be a perfect activity to do with numbers! Each table group got a piece of butcher paper with a number on it. They had to write or draw a way to show that number. Apparently tally marks and expanded form were the big hit for showing a number! This would also be a great way for kiddos to show story elements with the book being in the middle! Or a long vowel in the middle with words all around, a digraph in the middle with words all around, oh my goodness….I could keep going! Thank you Amy for my brain spinning in a million different directions!! And, before I go, if you purchased my Snip, Think, and Stick pack before this week, please make sure you re-download it! I fixed a few typos! Just click on the picture below to take you to it. Have you seen all these fabulous Doreen Cronin books that Chick-fil-a is giving away in their kids meals?!?! I got super excited when I saw these were going to be the toy! Pretty sure we have gotten too many kids meals here lately! We got Click Clack Moo Cows That Type tonight for dinner! It made for a quick impromptu inferencing and vocabulary lesson during dinner! And there you have it, a few fun activities from our week! I’m linking up with Doodle Bugs today for Five for Friday! Now, I’m off to get warm by the fire and eat some milk and cookies!!! #itswhatthebabywants
