Plant Activities and Centers
Plant Sorting Cards – Sort as a class or put these in a station! Students can follow up by coloring and reading the different plants we eat.
Tops or Bottoms Sorting Craft – First, read Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens and then have students sort parts of a plant onto the carrot craft by “tops” or “bottoms”. These make an adorable hallway or hanging display.
Tops or Bottoms Sorting Cards – Use the sorting cards as a whole group lesson or in centers!
Plant Vocabulary Cards – Use the vocabulary cards as a whole group lesson, on a word wall, or in centers!
Plant Worksheets – So many worksheets to choose from! Perfect for follow up to a whole group lesson for independent practice, or use for morning work, or centers!
I Spy All About Plants – Download this worksheet by entering your email HERE!
Anchor Charts – Print these on 200 – 400% scale to create a large anchor chart or project on the board!
Parts of a Plant – Bring in fruits and vegetables and students sort by which part of the plant they are! This is always such a hit!
Plants Needs Craft – Students draw what plants need on the leaves to create a flower craft. These make such a cute spring display!
Parts of a Seed – Label the parts of a seed to create a flip book craft. This is quite possibly my favorite year after year. They turn out so cute! Take strips of construction paper and fold it zig-zag to create the arms and legs!
Plants Journal – Students record their plant’s growth! These make such a great keepsake! I love how this activity also reinforces responsibility because students are checking on their plants each day and recording the changes.
Greenhouse – I love that these greenhouses are an expensive way for students to grow seeds in the classroom. All you need is card stock in various colors, paper towel, clear baggie, and a lima bean seed.
Plant Measurements – Another favorite! Students create a flower and measure each part of the plant. These include rulers and seed rulers for standard and non-standard measurement.
Longest to Shortest & Measure and Explain – Students can practice measurement independently with these worksheets!
Plant Worksheets – Incorporate the plant theme into math with these worksheets!
Watermelon Place Value – Okay, this might actually be my favorite! I love a good craft that allows students to use their imagination but ties in standards! Assign each student a number to create or let them choose their own! These are available in both place value and number sense (preschool & kinder focused)
Plant Writing – Students create a flower and write about parts of a plant, life cycle, and more!
