Our meeting place

One of my favorite times during our school day is our meeting time! I love when we all gather up on the rug and have a read aloud, or start a new lesson, create anchor charts together, have our morning meeting,…it’s just my favorite! Here is my 2nd little edition of this rug we will be using this year for our meeting place! I am very excited about it. Slide1 After 2 months..I am finally finished with it. It could have been done 2 months ago…buut, I have been all things lazy this summer. I cannot take any credit for the images on the rug….all images are from Seussville.com. “Our Promise” source. I have been teaching since August of 2008 and have always had a Seuss inspired room with the little ones except for when I taught 3rd grade,.. I boxed up the Seuss decor and went for something different. 🙁 Total bummer. When I moved to 1st grade I was seriously all things excited MAINLY because I would get to un-box all that fabulous Seuss stuff!!! It is just too fun! The possibilities are endless when it comes to decorating. My first year teaching 1st grade was August 2009. When I moved to 1st, I looked everywhere for a fun and colorful carpet free rug that didn’t take all my teacher budget. Well, I found nothing! Notta. So….I went to Lowes looking for something I could use as a rug or even make into a rug. Walking impatiently up and down every isle, my eyes laid upon this large roll of linoleum! rugrug3  rug2 Only $27.97 for a rug?!?! Of course! I found an image that I wanted on the rug {from the Seussville website}, used large thumb tacks to hold the linoleum to the wall, and traced the image using a projector {tracing it on the back side of the linoleum}, painted it with acrylic paint {bought my colors from Wal-Mart}, and painted a few coats of clear Polyurethane {using a roller brush} over the entire rug. Easy peasy! Now, painting it took well…the remaining of that summer, but it was well worth it. I have used that rug for 3 years and decided it was time for a new one! I still have my first rug and plan to cut it into smaller rugs to use around the room for different centers or even as floor work mats. Haven’t decided yet. You could make these rugs in any theme that you wanted. They are very easy to do, last years, and are very easy to clean! I am linking up with Tara @ 4th Grade Frolics for her Monday Made-It Linky party…on a Tuesday. 🙂
