I think we would all agree that teaching non-fiction text features in the younger grades can be quite the struggle! It just doesn't hold their attention. #canigetanamen Last year, I did a few activities with my students that helped make this comprehension skill fun and engaging for them. Throughout the summer I have been adding to those previous activities and put them all in my newest Tying Up Comprehension pack. Let's take a … [Read more...]

Pumpkins and Bats!
Happy Friday friends! I am home with a yucky stomach bug today. It has hit our family and my classroom! Gross! I wanted to share a few October-y things we have been working on in the classroom. Last week we learned about adjectives. We starting off talking about pumpkins and coming up with words that describe the inside and the outside of them. Afterwards, we used the apple craft from my Get Your Adjectives Here pack to … [Read more...]
Main Idea fun!
This week in reading we worked on main idea and details. It can be tough for the little ones. Especially when we are still learning to read and write. We started off watching this Brain Pop Jr. video to introduce it. Gotta love Moby! Afterwards, I gave each table group a clear bag filled with these picture cards (details). They worked in groups to discuss what the main idea would be. Next, the groups … [Read more...]
No Worksheet Wednesday
I’m linking up with The Primary Chalkboard to show a few things we have done for No Worksheet Wednesday. We wrapped up fractions on Monday and started our time unit yesterday. The kiddos created clocks with butcher paper and sticky notes. We also created this large life size clock outside our room with sticky notes and tape! Simple and effective! The kiddos used it to show their time using their body as the … [Read more...]
Five for (Saturday)
Linking up with Doodle Bugs today for some Five for Friday fun. I had every intention to link up last night, but mexican food and my bed were calling my name! It's been a wild week! For grammar we worked on questions and statements. First up, we watched a Brain Pop Jr video to introduce the different types of punctuations and then sorted different words onto a question mark or period. Sticky note sorts are one of my faves! They are … [Read more...]
Sequencing and Adjectives with Apples!
I am always looking for ways to bring in some cute crafts that focus on our weekly skills. Last week in reading we learned about sequencing. Since we use a basal in our district, we read the basal story to introduce our skill for the week and take a comprehension test on Wednesdays. That gives us Thursday and Friday to bring in other books for that skill and any cute crafts! On Thursday we made applesauce! We talked about how we were making it, … [Read more...]
Main Idea
Tomorrow is Friday my friends! This has only been my second week back in the classroom {last week we were in Houston for our angel baby’s surgeries}, and I am in need of a 2 day nap like non other! I need some serious sleep y’all. Like for real. This week we have been learning all about main idea, what it means, how to find it, and all that good stuff. Last year we started off with this, but this year, I wanted to change it up a bit. I don’t … [Read more...]

It’s been a BUSY 4 weeks! This eCard describes my past few weeks perfectly! With tomorrow being Monday Two, I am excited to finally have a few minutes to sit down and give you all a peek into these past few weeks. This post is going to be full of catching-up-randomness!
