Today was our first day back since Elsa froze Texas. I love to look at snow, it's beautiful, but I'd much rather wear flip flops and a v-neck tee! Although, the ICE ice cream we made was delish! This week we are focusing on the sound of /ar/ and /or/. Super fun! I LOVE to get my kiddos excited about new learning, and hello,....I definitely want them to remember 1st grade as their BEST year ever! I found this tutorial online for my pirate … [Read more...]

Five for (Saturday)
Linking up with Doodle Bugs today for some Five for Friday fun. I had every intention to link up last night, but mexican food and my bed were calling my name! It's been a wild week! For grammar we worked on questions and statements. First up, we watched a Brain Pop Jr video to introduce the different types of punctuations and then sorted different words onto a question mark or period. Sticky note sorts are one of my faves! They are … [Read more...]
Back to it!
Well, I am officially ready for bed! I woke up this morning all ready to go and mid morning I was dragging my feet! As much as I wanted to go back to sleep, the kids were ready to go! I knew I had to keep things going with little to no down time today. We are beginning to work on long vowel sounds (CVCe) so we started off by meeting our bossy friend E and making these hats. You can download the hat blackline … [Read more...]
Christmas Questionnaire!
I'm linking up with Michelle at Fabulous in First for some Christmas Questionnaire fun! Here we go! 1. When do you decorate? We always start decorating way early! Like the first weekend of November early! I am obsessed with Christmas decor! It literally looks like Santa threw up in my house! Our tree is decorated with all sorts of randomness, but that's just how I like it. It has school made ornaments, ornaments … [Read more...]
Catching Up!
Geez Louise have I been a slacker or what?!?! Between physical therapy for angel baby, homework, gymnastics, life, being a mom, working full time, being a mom, cleaning the house….have I mentioned being a mom, sometimes blogging gets pushed back! Thankfully I have a Superman of a husband that helps out all the time! But for me, being a mom is my top priority! So, sometimes I spend my nights cuddled up on the couch with my angel baby or playing … [Read more...]
Time!
Math was all about time this week. Our district follows TRS (old C-Scope) for math so we only worked with time to the hour this week. We will work with time to the half hour later on in the year. We started off very basic – relating a clock to a number line. I used index cards and string to create a very simple number line to 12. We talked about how a clock is indeed a number line – just in a circle. We hung it up on the board, I would … [Read more...]
Main Idea
Tomorrow is Friday my friends! This has only been my second week back in the classroom {last week we were in Houston for our angel baby’s surgeries}, and I am in need of a 2 day nap like non other! I need some serious sleep y’all. Like for real. This week we have been learning all about main idea, what it means, how to find it, and all that good stuff. Last year we started off with this, but this year, I wanted to change it up a bit. I don’t … [Read more...]
First Week Recap
It seems like every year I forget how much energy I use during the first week back. You can bet Sonic got my business every single afternoon! There’s just nothing better than a Dr. Pepper right after school! Our internet is finally back up and running! Thank goodness! When you live out in the country….the internet is few and far between! To recap our first week, we read lots of back to school books and talked a LOT about 3 star coloring, … [Read more...]
Math-letes, Poetry and David Shannon!
We celebrated all that we have learned in Math this year with a MATH-LETE Day today! It was loads of fun and super busy! We played games and did a few crafts. Needless to say, I am pooped! We started off by making our Mathlete hats and writing what our favorite thing about math is! I had lots of my kiddos pick basketballs for their hats, but footballs and baseballs were huge hits too! You can download the hat template for free {here}. … [Read more...]
Fairy Tales!
This is our first week without our basal this year, so we are living it up with all things fun and fancy! We have been reviewing quite a bit of our reading strategies through our fairy tale unit. We read Goldilocks and the Three Bears by James Marshall. The kiddos always giggle with this book! It is just too fun. After reading, the kiddos summarized the story on index cards. While I was out yesterday for doctor’s appointments on our … [Read more...]
Addition and Subtraction Fun!
Hi Friends. It’s been a while. I wanted to give you all a quick peek into what my kiddos have been up to this past week. We are learning all about addition and subtraction to 20. This Roll and Move game has been loads of fun. The kiddos beg to play it when they have completed their work, or during station time. They love it! We started off last week playing just addition with a partner, and played subtraction with it this week. They rolled … [Read more...]
