There are so many standards you can review (or squeeze in new standards) all while learning and having fun! You could have a Movie Day, Popcorn and Pajama Day, use all the activities, or pick and choose what works for you and your classroom! End of Year Movie Day Activities
Donation Letter – Decide whether your day is going to be called a “Movie Day” or “Popcorn and Pajamas Day”. I personally love Popcorn and Pajamas! If you’re doing an ABC Countdown to countdown the days left of school, then you could easily use this theme day for either the letter M or P. Simply choose your note, fill in the date, movie name, and snack items that you wish to have for your class, sign and send home for families to donate items for your fun filled day!
Star Tags – print the tags on colored cardstock and attach to a fun pair of star sunglasses. I love these! They come in a pack. Give students a pair of star glasses to celebrate the day or use as an end of year gift.
Movie Day Printables – Staple the printables together to create a packet for students to work through during the day OR use the printables in stations. The printables include a mix of standards! Use all the printables or pick and choose!
3D Words – This is my favorite! Students can wear these 3D glasses and create words with these free 3D letter cards. I like these phonics word cards; they come with several skills.
Or students could create their friends’ names with 3D letters or their own names. Just print out the small 3D letters, wear 3D glasses, and glue the letters on colored construction paper.
Grab the editable name cards here.
3D Shapes Puzzles – print and laminate the 3D glasses puzzles and students match the 3D shape to the matching attributes and real life 3D objects.
There is also a printable option that you can grab here.
Walk of Fame Measurements – This is a fun and interactive station activity! Draw squares with each student’s name in a star on a large piece of butcher paper, craft paper, or anchor chart paper. Students trace their hand in their square. They use nonstandard units to measure their fingers, hand, and friends’ hands.
Measurement Tray – Throw a variety of manipulatives in a chips and salsa tray for students to easily grab for measuring! I get the trays from The Dollar Tree. One of the measuring standards for first grade is to measure with different nonstandard items and compare them. These trays are great for that!
Or you can print out the Walk of Fame Measurements Printable and students trace, estimate, and measure their fingers. Grab the printable here!
Red Carpet Measurements – This is another fun and interactive measurement activity. I like to use large red craft paper. This is my favorite! Students trace their shoe, write their name in their footprint, and measure the length of their shoe and their friends’ shoes. I recommend having students remove their shoe prior to tracing to prevent the paper from tearing.
Favorite Flavor Popcorn Graph – students can use these cards to create picture graphs or bar graphs on butcher paper with popcorn colored pompoms or cubes. Put colored pompoms or cubes in a bucket. Students match the color of the cubes or pompoms to the color of the popcorn flavor cards to create graphs. You could also use real popcorn if you have that!
Another option is to scoop the popcorn (cubes or pompoms) and students graph what they scoop!
Graphing Popcorn Worksheet – Follow up a graphing activity with this worksheet. Students use the color by code box to color the different popcorn. They use their data to create a tally graph and bar graph! Typo on questions has been corrected on the worksheet.
Popcorn Picture Graph and Bar Graph – Popcorn is always a hit! They make a great snack, too! Grab some different flavors of popcorn (or ask a student’s family to donate with this donation letter), and download these mats for students to create a picture graph and bar graph with the popcorn. Another option is to use colored cubes or colored pompoms in place of real popcorn!
Class Popcorn Flavor Graph – You can also use the popcorn flavor cards (from above) to create a class graph! I love using these free editable student picture cards for graphs!
Place Value Awards – Draw the bottom of trophies all over a piece of butcher paper or anchor chart paper. Write different values in each trophy. Students use place value blocks to build that number to create a trophy award. I love this activity!
Place Value Tray – Just like the Measurement Trays that I love, throw a variety of place value manipulatives in a tray for students to easily grab for exploring place value! I get the trays from The Dollar Tree.
Place Value Worksheet – Follow up the place value awards activity with this worksheet. You can grab this in my Movie Day Packet!
Matching Show Times – Print out movie covers on Google. These are all G Rated movies that are probably familiar to most students. Print out these time pocket chart cards. Place a few of the time cards in the pocket chart. Students then find and match the missing show times.
Show Times Worksheet – Follow up the pocket chart activity with this worksheet. You can grab this in my Movie Day Packet!
PopCOINS – students complete a directed drawing while counting a collection of coins. These turn out so cute!
You could also draw popcorn buckets on butcher paper, write different values on the buckets, and students use coins to create that amount.
I love these magnetic coins! You could hang the butcher paper on the white board and students use magnetic coins to create the amounts.
Or students could stamp the coins! I love these coin stamps!
Popcorn Addition – draw popcorn buckets on butcher paper or anchor chart paper and students add using colored pompoms or colored cubes!
Addition Animation Worksheet – Follow up the interactive activity with this worksheet. You can grab this in my Movie Day Packet!
Paper Plates – these make an easy, interactive station activity that can be used year after year for multiple standards and themes!
Musical Plates – This is played just like Musical Chairs except there are no chairs! Lay the plates around the carpet area in a large circle. Turn on music. Students walk around the circle of plates. Stop the music. Call out a sum and whichever student that is standing next to the plate with the matching number sentence wins that round. This could be played with any skill!
Popcorn Toss – write an addition sentence or word on yellow tissue paper or construction paper. Crumble that paper up into a ball. Students can play in pairs. One student answers the math problem or reads the word, tosses that popcorn (paper) to the other student and the other student catches it in the popcorn bucket. This is similar to Trashketball!
I love these popcorn trays! They come in bulk! They are so fun for students! Fill them with prepackaged popcorn, juice and a snack bar. They can enjoy the treats during the movie time!
Popcorn Hat – These are fun for students to color, cut, and attach to a sentence strip and wear throughout the fun day!
AutoGRAPHS – Students collect 10 autographs of their classmates. They count the letters in each autograph, and use that data to create a bar graph. Simple, fun, and interactive! You can grab this in my Movie Day Packet!
And lastly, students can record the elements from the movie in their That’s a Wrap booklet!
