Ok, who else is wiped out after this first week back? I swear I feel like I've been sleep walking the past 3 days! #thestruggleisrealyall This week we started Bossy E and long vowels. Whew. We started our learning off by meeting Bossy E. We talked about how he jumps over the consonant, hits the vowel on the head and says, "HEY, SAY YOUR NAME!" They always think this is hilarious! I don't know about y'all, but I am always trying to brainstorm ways to get my students motivated and excited about increasing their sight word fluency. I have been trying something new this year with my class that I shared over at Blog Hoppin', and I wanted to share with you all here too! My district uses Fry's sight words. Each grade level is given a particular set to assess each student on. Our goal is that each child will … [Read more...]
Shapes!
It's time for some catching up! Last week we reviewed shapes and worked on identifying their attributes. We started off with these posters that I made from last year. Afterwards, we listened to the book The Shape of Things on You Tube. We made each shape on our geo boards and played Guess My Shape. This game is nothing fancy. To play, I told my students "I was thinking of a shape that had ___ sides and ___ vertices". They had to … [Read more...]

Free Classroom Decor Posters
This year I decided to completely change my entire classroom decor. I have been in the same classroom for 6 years and decided it was time for some change. For the majority of those years I had a Dr. Seuss themed room. Last year I changed things out here and there with different colors and patterns and it worked great, but this year I wanted something calming that created a home feeling. I created a few new posters to match my new decor. Y'all … [Read more...]
Math Journal Tidbits….
I've had a few ask about our math journals, so I thought I would do a quick post to show you how we use them and tie them into our math word wall. Our math curriculum coach shared these with us and seriously y'all, I don't know why I never did this before!?! I stalk Target ever summer waiting for their composition notebooks to be on sale. When they are, I snatch up a class set. I am not picky about them all matching, so I usually just grab … [Read more...]
